The Health & Safety of our staff, partners and the communities in which we operate is our number one priority.
Effective health and safety management is at the core of our business, and we consistently maintain a robust workplace safety program and state of the art safety technology. We employ numerous systems, processes and procedures to ensure we comply with legislation and minimise the risk of harm. Whilst we are proud of our record on Health and Safety, we recognise that there is no space for complacency. All of IQE’s employees are encouraged to take an active role to ensure workplace safety and they are mandated to report all safety observations and incidents. We regularly undertake safety audits, risk assessments and regular awareness training sessions. As a company, we work to the mantra of “Nothing you do on site today will be as important as going home to your loved ones safe and healthy” and empower our employees to respectfully challenge any circumstances which they consider do not meet required safety standards.
IQE’s Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE) team is responsible for maintaining workplace health and safety programs as well as ensuring continual improvement and employee professional development planning. Each facility has its own specialist site based HSSE personnel who are overseen by the Group HSSE team. Our Group team have expertise in all aspects of HSSE and includes a specialist Process Safety expert to direct our Process Safety journey.
The Group team act in high-level advisory roles to all IQE sites, identifying global best-practices and overseeing the adoption of strategic HSSE initiatives in line with applicable legislative requirements. The site based HSSE personnel are directly responsible for localised program implementation and day to day operations at each IQE site. The Global HSSE Director and Group HSSE team also oversee site trend analyses and undertake regular sessions to discuss active issues and site developments. The HSSE Director and Group team also work directly with the site management teams to implement strategic initiatives and best practices and continually improve safety performance.
The HSSE group continues to be actively involved in industry-wide initiatives, actively working with industry associations and proactively registering under regulatory directives such as REACH and GHS-based Hazard Communication. The group also work with in house chemists to monitors global chemical control activities (e.g. RoHS, TSCA) to ensure continued customer confidence and supply-chain compliance.

Compliance with legislation
Compliance with Health & Safety legislation is critical to our global businesses and we adhere to the laws of the jurisdictions in which we operate. These include legislative directives from the Health and Safety Executive (UK sites), Occupational Health and Safety Administration (US sites) and Ministry of Labour (Taiwan site). In the UK, two sites are regulated under the Health and Safety Executive’s Control of Major Accident Hazards (COMAH) regulations. In the US, one site is regulated under OSHA’s Process Safety Management (PSM) regulation.
To keep up-to-date with continually evolving legislation, IQE maintains membership of a number of professional bodies which provide a good source of reference and support. This includes regular updates from the British Safety Council, British Standards Institution, Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment in the UK, the US National Safety Council, the US National Fire Protection Agency, the US Federal Register, the Taiwan Industrial Technology Research Institute, Safety and Health Technology Center.
The safety of all of our employees has always been IQE’s highest priority and the company has consistently maintained a robust workplace safety program and state of the art safety technology. We are proud of our record on health and safety across our global manufacturing operations and are confident that our safety processes will continue to be strengthened through our cooperation with HSE, OSHA and other territorial regulatory agencies.
IQE is also actively involved in industry-wide initiatives, working with industry associations and proactively registering under regulatory directives such as Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) and Global Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS) based Hazard Communication. Furthermore, IQE monitors global chemical control activities (e.g. Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive and Toxic Substance Control Act) to ensure continued customer confidence and supply-chain compliance.
To ensure we are meeting our regulatory requirements as well as industry-wide initiatives, IQE employs appropriately qualified EHS professionals, reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, and these EHS professionals have access to third-party professional advisors as required.
